ABOUT

Lorenzo Simoni is an Italian saxophonist and composer, born in Barga (Italy), he first approaches to the saxophone at the age of 11. 
Jazz and classical saxophone player, he graduated in classical saxophone with the highest honors and special mention at Leghorn’s Conservatory in Italy. 
Since he was little he played as a soloist with orchestras and won numerous national and international competitions for both jazz and classical music such as:

 

1st Prize at the “Premio Crescendo” (Florence)
1st Prize at “Riviera della Versilia” (Massarosa)
1st Prize at the competition “Riviera Etrusca” (Piombino)
1st Prize at the National competition organized by the civic school of music in Milan
1st Prize at the international competition “Le note sinfonie” (Umbria)
1st Prize at the “Lions got talent” (Pisa)
1st Prize at the scholarship “Marco Salvini” organized by the Conservatory of Leghorn.
1st Prize at the scholarship for chamber music ensembles organized by the Conservatory of Leghorn.
1st Prize at the national competition “My Favorite Sax” (Empoli)
1st Prize at the Rotary Club Montaperti’s competition as a representative of Leghorn’s Conservatory
1st Prize at the Lions Club Grosseto competition and is selected by the region as a representative for the Lions Club European competition .
2nd Prize at the Exigentia international saxophone competition (Rome)


He reveals himself unique by starting a career that includes jazz and classical music both at a professional level, two different worlds that connects to each other, in fact he has collaborated with numerous artist that comes from both genres such as: Nasheet Waits, Jason Palmer, Mario Marzi, Christian Lauba, Giovanni Tommaso, Fabrizio Meloni, Enrico Rava, Victor Morosco, Greg Burk, Francesco Diodati, Mauro Grossi, Saxofollia, Satèn Saxophone Quartet, MEJO (metropolitan jazz orchestra), Anna Bulkina, Stefano di Battista, Massimiliano Messieri, Francesco Petreni and many others.


He has performed in numerous venues and events such as the Berklee Performance Center (Boston), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Birmingham's Symphony Hall, MIT Sailing Pavillion (Cambridge, Massachusetts), Chigiana International Festival, Umbria Jazz, Umbria Jazz Winter, Piacenza Jazz Festival, Web Notte by Repubblica TV, Livorno Music Festival, Festival Forfest (Czech Republic), Ferrara Jazz club, Barga jazz festival, Sax Arts Festival (Faenza), Monfràjazz Festival [...]
He has held masterclasses in events such as the “International saxophone congress of Fermo”, “Fanano saxophone week” and “Saxophone Days” in Udine

Some of his projects includes a chamber music duo with the Italian pianist Susanna Pagano, they play composition from the repertoire, transcriptions and new works for saxophone.
Often active as a sideman in different kinds of groups and also leader of a quartet where he plays his original music.


As a composer, he published his first work “Candela”, for alto saxophone solo, published by DaVinci Publishing.
